Hey Mark,
I think this is really true, I've seen it in my own life a few times in particular, but I think it's really hard at times to hear the Holy Spirit. Even if I do think I hear it's hard to know that it is the Holy Spirit and to have the confidence to act in its guidance.
Have a great Holiday!
Matt
So what ARE you smoking :)
I was reading out of 1 Corinthians about gifts yesterday. The process of discerning our gifts and figuring out how to best operate in them is wonderful, exciting, and often taxing. Learning more about who I am and what service looks like hasn't always been a joy, including here in Rwanda. Yet, I am confident that when make our best efforts to live well, with God at the center, good things must ultimately follow.
Much love,
Aaron
agree emphatically with your statement about when we follow God. How did you feel about my view of Holy Spirit guiding us in the process?
Those passages really gave me a greater understanding of God's grace toward my life. He has given me so much to be thankful for already, but these gifts that were listed in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 just give me more to praise the Lord about. Also the his assurance that these gifts can still come to us at his good grace makes me all the more excited. I love how he reveals something new to me each day. He is awesome :)
Jack,
When you say "gifts can still come to us" do you think we get these specific gifts from God over time or progressively?
I read "All these gifts have a common origin, but are handed out one by one by the one Spirit of God. He decides who gets what, and when." in the Corinthians passage and took it as gaining a reward for growing in the Lord. That these gifts may come to us the deeper we go in our relationship with God.
Jack - I agree accept I would not view receiving the gifts as a reward; sounds a bit like a works/reward system, and nothing we can do can earn us anything from God. What I understand from Scripture is that God, in His great love, gives us good gifts. Certainly, as we know Him better and are more sure of His voice, more willing to obey, He can entrust us with larger, more powerful insight/gifts. Yes?
